oh i made it through. we went to disney on our honeymoon which i know sounds horribly lame, BUT, it was the least lame thing ever because if you get their newlyweds pin you get all kinds of fancy-fancy perks (hot tip) and you can get drunk and ride all the epcot rides.

anyway, i can remember what it was like planning the thing for just two adults, let alone adults and multiple-aged kids. disney is unique in that the planning actually really helps. i read so many of those "what to expect at disney" guides and i think it made a difference.

This was a great post! I worked at Disney for a semester in college and I'm bookmarking this for the day when we go back with our daughter! (And any future kids, I guess, gulp!). :)

Wow, this was such an informative post. Thanks! We have a 6 yr old, 4 yr old, and 22 month old but have never taken them anywhere BIG. We've been too scared at all the work (and planning!). This gives me some ideas though!

Christy

Great post! We took two kids (6 and 9) for a week in October, and the weather was perfect with low crowds. I used touringplans.com and the Unofficial Guide, too. I highly recommend them as well as disboards.com as a good resource and place to ask questions.

This is so timely! We are going to Disney with our 5 year old son in May, and I am getting ready to start planning. BUT- I had no idea where to start, and I was paralyzed! I will definitely check back in the comments to see what other people ask because I have no idea what my questions are.

Thanks. We are doing the under three/get in free thing THIS december so very timely! I am already trying to look at flight prices and am slightly miffed they aren't really available yet. My inner planner is crying. And I really was wondering about height restrictions because my daughter is a wee thing and I was hoping there wouldn't be alot she couldn't do ride wise.

Julie

LOVE IT! THANKS!. Great post.

If this question isn't too intrusive...can you give a ballpark of how much the trip {hotel/food/airfare} totaled? We're looking to possibly go sometime in the next year and a half and I have no idea what I'm getting into money-wise.
{If this is an obnoxious question, please ignore!}

This is great! I have bookmarked it for later use. We went in mid-January 2010 when my husband had to go to Orlando for a conference, so we had to stay elsewhere. My kids were 3.5 years old & 15 months old. The crowds were brutal with over an hour's wait for most rides (making me shudder to think of what it's like in the summer or during a busy time), so it's nice to hear that the beginning of December is a better time to go. Next time, we'll do that.

Elsha

I love reading stuff like this. My family is planning a Disney trip (with like 8 little ones) for 2015 and I am ALREADY thinking about it.

Chris

That trip sounds amazing! I think I will definitely go that route if we ever get out there!

HereWeGoAJen

Hmm, did I mention that we are going to Disney again in about six weeks? Want to meet us there?

Kelly

My husband and I are something of Disney experts. We've taken our son the last two summers at age 3 and 4. You did a GREAT job preparing and knowing what to expect!!! My biggest pet peeve is people who just show up and have done no research! Also, I highly recommend a longer trip at least one time. We went for 10 days and were on the REGULAR dining plan. Talk about feeling spoiled (and fatter)!

Jesabes

This makes me want to go so badly!!

M&Co.

It sounds like an amazing trip!

elz

Thanks! We're going in March (BEFORE Spring Break) and staying at Wilderness Lodge-holla 40% off!!

Question, which I'm sure is really easy to find out but I am lazy- do the rooms have coffee making capabilities?

Still Playing School

Great tips, thanks so much!

Erica

Thanks!! Very helpful. Still haven't dared this particular with my 6.5 and 2.5 year olds, but maybe later this year....

Can you take your own food in the park? And how safe would you have felt to leave your buggy while all of you rode a ride? We did Legoland in Germany last year and could bring our own food (awesome!) and everyone left their stuff at the ride gates. It really helped since there are only 3 of us and one person always going solo is BORING while you wait.

beckyk

Also does anybody know if you can be dropped off at the Magic Kingdom? We'll have family that can shuttle us in.

Emily

elz - YES, there are coffeemakers in the rooms. I'm not much of a coffee person, so I don't know what KIND of coffee or if it was GOOD coffee, just that there WAS coffee. HOWEVER, I can also tell you that you can buy a refillable mug at the Wilderness Lodge (I think the cost is $11 or $12??) and you can fill it as many times as you like with soda or coffee for the length of your stay. You can only fill it up AT the Wilderness Lodge, but you can fill it up as MUCH AS YOU LIKE. (Dave liked this option for coffee much better than our room!)

beckyk - We took a backpack that held our camera/valuables and brought it onto the rides with us, but most of the time we left clothes/snacks/other stuff right in our stroller baskets an dno one ever touched it. I felt very comfortable doing that.

As for snacks, yes, they allow you to bring food in. We just brought in snacks - I don't know if they'd permit full lunches or anything, but I'm not totally sure on that. You can bring in water bottles, and I have heard of people bringing coolers, too. I have no idea about being dropped off, though!

beckyk

thanks!!

We are going to Disney the WEEK before my son turns three. Do you need any sort of proof that your child isnt three yet or do they just take your word? Thanks! Great post.

MisplacedTexan

This is so helpful! Thank you for writing this! The email that you signed up for did it cost anything? I was looking into one and it cost a little over $10 and I was wondering if it was the same thing. Thanks!

Disney is so much fun! I'm a grandma and started going there when I was in college. Then when my kids came along I took then I don't know how many times. We have only been a couple of times since my grandkids were born. Maybe it's because I'm older, but it seem a lot more crowded now.
