The evaluation has been a bright spot.
Last year's preschool evaluation – while comforting and encouraging and wonderful in so many ways – still hung over my head. Taunting me. Those little circles – those little damning circles - drawn around the word “seldom.”
Seldom initiates play with others.
Seldom joins a group of friends to play.
Seldom plays with various children.
And I felt it; I literally FELT the weight lift off my shoulders when I held my breath and unfolded that paper last week and saw that I no longer have to fear the word seldom.
Always.
Always.
Always.
Oh, how much he has changed.

Oh, what good news! Yay for Asher, coming out of his shell!

We don't have preschool evaluations, but every day when I pick him up now and he is playing with other kids and running around the playground, I feel that same way. So very relieved.
So proud of Asher! And Eli. Our boys are doing so well!

Hooray! I'm getting misty just reading this.
As the Mom of an introverted little boy, hearing about Asher's success (and that of Elizabeth's Eli) gives me hope.

This especially hits home for me because I had the parent-teacher conference this morning for my 4.5 year old, who is very similar to Asher in so many ways. (Mere moments after you posted about Asher being afraid to be downstairs while you were upstairs, I found myself permanently attached to my son, who would moan "I'm scared!!!!" as I tried to walk 2 millimeters into another room without him. Sigh.) Anyway, Henry was almost mute all last year at preschool, but today! The teacher told me that he was volunteering information during circle time! asking questions of the teachers! even telling stories! And he has really made friends this year. It is so amazing to watch them grow and just become these even more awesome versions of themselves, isn't it?
