We took off Saturday and drove through Hurricane Irene to get here. it wasn't too bad actually; the most painful part was Friday night, when Dave went to get cash at the ATM before the trip and ran into a friend. They were catching up and Dave mentioned our beach plans and some random lady using THE OTHER ATM overheard the conversation and gave him some long-winded, irate speech about the HURRICANE, didn't we know about the HURRICANE (I ask you, who DIDN'T know about the hurricane) and we were being STUPID to do something like drive THROUGH THE HURRICANE, didn't we know the PRESIDENT wasn't even going to finish HIS vacation in the HURRICANE?
The drive through the hurricane was FINE. I want to go find ATM Lady and tell her that we are not idiots. It was windy and at one point a very small tree branch blew into our car (it probably qualified as a stick) and it rained, but that was it, and we drove through North Carolina right after the thing made landfall. SO. We're here now and we're having a good time and for all we know that could end on Saturday when we drive home and find that our house has a tree right through the roof. SOMEONE PLEASE CALL US IF THERE IS A TREE THROUGH OUR ROOF.
But for now, IGNORANCE IS BLISS.

Now I am left wondering where you vacationed, as your wonderful pictures look like my neck of the woods (Wilmington, NC). Glad you had a great time!

We drove through Hurricane Opal (1995) across Ohio and Pennsylvania in a raised-roof van to get to my brother's wedding. We were fine, although it wasn't the most fun trip. Came home and our back steps were collapsed. Insurance replaces with better ones. No biggie.

I'm glad the hurricane didn't ruin your vacation! It felt like nothing too significant at my house (in MA) and we didn't lose power or lose any very large tree limbs, but just down the road, trees fell all over the place and people were without power for days! And my in-laws town in VT is completely destroyed and it was *only* a tropical storm by the time it hit us. So strange how it can have such different effects depending where you are! I never would have thought it would be bad in Vermont!
Great pics BTW! I have no idea how you get that effect, but it's really cool!

emmysuh - the picture I think you are referring to is the one of the two kids on the swing? That's Asher and his cousin, who is just a few months younger than he is. I could see how it might be confusing!
