It kind of amazes me what types of things end up all over Twitter and what doesn't. I tend to rely on Twitter for my knowledge of what is going on in the world (yes, bad idea I know), and sometimes I miss really huge things.

Very well said. It's easy to get riled up - and some people can inspire the masses with their words alone - but it's another thing to channel that anger into positive action.

I need to work on that. This was an excellent reminder.

What a great point. My own personal bugbear is when people get into the, "This is Cancer Week. Post this as your status for at least one hour if your life has been touched by cancer." You know what would actually be HELPFUL? Post a link to the Cancer Society website and ask people to donate money instead of a useless status message.

What is language for? some people seem to think it’s for practicing grammar rules and learning lists of words——the longer the words the better. that’s wrong. language is for the exchange of ideas, for communication.
