We had a little party for Lucy tonight with my family (we're celebrating with Dave's family on Sunday). I made pizza and then Lucy opened her presents and we had cupcakes. Simple and perfect. She was really excited about the Mickey Mouse decorations I put up and wanted desperately to eat her “Mickey cake!” (really just a cupcake with a Mickey Mouse candle on top). She was also VERY excited that Real Baby Shea (her cousin and my nephew, who is five months old) was in attendance. Real Baby Shea is the obvious inspiration for Creepy-Eyed Baby Shea the Doll, who we still drag everywhere with us, much to my ever-increasing annoyance. Real Baby Shea has regular, non-creepy eyes. Also a non-plastic head, for your information.
My brother and sister-in-law gave her a big bag of baby doll accessories, including hairbrushes and spoons and forks and a potty and bottles for lotions and powders and she LOVED it. My parents gave her a tabletop easel and some little dolls with clothes that snap on and off (genius) and Lucy loved those, too. Her other aunt and uncle gave her a stuffed Mickey and Minnie Mouse and I just KNOW they're going to end up being her Crib Friends of Choice. She loved the process of opening presents and was quick to say thank you when we asked her to.
This morning we had her two-year well-baby checkup. The doctor was a little concerned – Lucy's weight hasn't stayed on the curve at all; in fact, she was at the 75th percentile at nine months and now only clocks in at the tenth for weight and 25th for height. It's not like she's withering away to nothing, but the doctor did want to see her slide UP on the growth chart instead of down, so we're under strict orders to drink more chocolate milk, and check back in six months or so to see if she's managed to break 24 pounds. I tend to agree – after all, this child is still wearing the same clothes she wore in MARCH OF LAST YEAR. We are actually going to wear holes through size 18 months, I believe.
Then the nurse marched in and poked her in the arm with a flu shot and... absolutely nothing happened. She didn't even acknowledge that a foreign object was being jammed through her skin. She just sat there and watched as the nurse popped a bandaid on her shoulder and then she threaded her arm back through her new Jessie t-shirt and hopped off my lap. Like it was nothing. Incredible. And borderline INSANE.

Lucy is such a doll!

Two-year-old girls are awesome, and they just keep getting better. Two-year-old boys? Well, that's where the expression "terrible twos" comes from.

Just precious. My little guy (26 months) can still wear some 18 month, and is slowly creeping into 24 month/2T clothes. Some kids just take a little time.

My girl had (hopefully pats tense) issue. Believe it or not she weighed within a pound or two the same from 9 months to 19 months. Or doc recommend pedisure x2 a day and it seemed to do the trick and our daugter gained some much needed pounds. I think we had been wearing our 18 month clothes for a year! Also started the gummy vitamins.
I think has a little to do with cutting back in the bottles and not gobbling down all that much milk bc my daughter was a big fan of the ba-ba. She would drink some milk from a cup but put a bottle in front of her and gone in no time. (sheepish to admit we just a month ago kicked the bottle habit altogether but hard to deny calories when they aren't gaining weight!)

Sorry, defensive mom to a 2 year old boy here who just has to say that some 2 year old boys are also awesome and sweet and not in any way reflective of the "terrible twos." Carry on. :)

My neighbor's daughter weighed the same for about a year and a half and got down to the 5th % for her weight and the doctors accused my neighbor of not feeding her! She caught up around 3 1/2 or 4. Now she's 6 and well above height for her age and just happens to be thin. Doctors worry too much, I know she'll gain when she's ready. So stinking cute! My daughter got that Mickey and Minnie for her first birthday in August and she's constantly giving them hugs and kisses!

The whole dropping in height and weight thing for Elizabeth too. Except her doctor's didn't notice because we moved. But she used to be 95%-97% in both and now she's 25% for weight and 50% for height. I'm not too concerned because she eats well, but I am going to keep an eye on it myself.
However, I am impressed at Lucy's shot reaction. Elizabeth had to be held down by me and a nurse. She screamed and screamed and hyperventilated. And that was just when they tried to look in her ears and listen to her chest. She didn't even GET A SHOT.

YOu are so lucky. My kid asked like we're putting him in a torture chamber when he gets a shot & then he looks at me like "How could you let this happen?" Pathetic.

By asked I mean acts. I'm sure you could have figured it out, but I just couldn't let that go uncorrected.

My daughter got the Snap N Style dolls when she was around the same age and she absolutely loved them. We played with them today in fact and she is almost four. Kate- you can buy them at Toys R Us, Kohls, and sometimes they have them at Walmart.

I wouldn't worry too much about her weight. My four year old daughter only weighs 28 pounds!

Beautiful pics of Lucy Em! Love that pretty blue dress too! At Thomas' 2 year visit he did the EXACT same thing with the shots. Just watched. No tears. So weird!
